What to know before you hire a Mold Removal Company Most other mold removal companies are going to offer you a "free" (or low cost) mold inspection. They will kindly send someone out to your home or business to tell you if you have a problem - and then try to sell you a job to correct the problem. This is a conflict of interest. Don't be misled by language such as "We will send your samples to an independent lab for analysis." Whoever takes the sample - is performing the inspection. Rapco performs only mold removal and will refer you to an independent mold consultant for the entire inspection process (if an inspection is even required!). Rapco will offer you a free mold removal estimate (there's a difference between an inspection and an estimate).
Rapco is very capable of rebuilding the water damaged areas in your structure, however, Rapco would also be very happy just doing your water damage or mold removal allowing you to use your own contractor for reinstallation. Rapco has been in business since 1977. You'll find many other companies have recently formed within the last couple of years. Some have merely paid a franchising fee and then declared themselves "mold experts." See "The Rapco Story" for more history on our company. Rapco has an ASB (asbestos) classification as well as a C-21 (demolition) classification with the California Contractors State License Board. The Contractors State License Board currently does not have a mold classification. However, mold is removed in much the same way as asbestos. Our workers are all trained and certified for this type of work. Also, mold removal usually involves demolition of walls and ceilings. Hence, a C-21 (demolition license) is recommended and sometimes compulsory. Many other companies have a simple general contractor's license. Why? So they can sell you a reconstruction job! (see above).
Mold contaminated drywall or plaster can be caused by a leaky roof, broken water pipes or leaky drains. You may notice black areas growing on your drywall/plaster. You may have tried painting over these areas - only to have the mold return. You may have even tried to demolish the drywall and replace it with new material - and still the mold returns. Rapco can effectively eliminate your mold issues using our professional and safe mold removal techniques. Rapco accepts CREDIT CARDS. What you should know about your mold removal company:Mold removal should be performed by a company that is licensed with the State of California Contractors State License Board. Presently, the Contractors State License Board has no classification for "Mold Removal." However, mold is removed in much the same way as asbestos. Accordingly, companies that perform mold removal should, at a minimum, have an ASB (asbestos) classification. It is also recommended that mold removal companies register with CAL/OSHA and obtain a registration number that should be offered to all prospective clients. Further, mold removal companies should maintain an adequate level of insurance. All workers who perform mold removal should have proper training in order to assure that mold spores are not scattered through-out the work area during removal. There are very specialized techniques that must be incorporated in order to assure a safe removal process. All workers should be covered by worker's compensation insurance to assure that no liability is passed on to the property owner (client). Rapco is licensed with the State of California Contractors State License Board with an ASB classification (License #671425). Rapco is registered with CAL/OSHA (Registration #263). All of Rapco's workers attend annual refresher courses. Rapco maintains a $1,000,000.00 liability insurance policy. All of Rapco's workers are covered by worker's compensation insurance.
WARNING! DO NOT USE A REMOVAL COMPANY TO DO YOUR TESTING! When you're not sure if you have an environmental problem, i.e. mold, asbestos, lead, etc., then you should have the material tested by an INDEPENDENT COMPANY. There is a very defined conflict of interest for any company which performs both removal of environmentally hazardous materials and also tests for the same. In other words, don't have the same company first test to see if you have a problem and then subsequently offer to sell you a job to correct the problem! Rapco responds promptly to any water damage situation. Water removal and dehumidification of hardwood floors, carpets, walls, ceilings, basements, and crawl spaces are performed to the highest standards in the industry.
